Breathing Apparatus Wearer

Course Outline

On successful completion of the course, personnel will have gained the practical skills and theoretical knowledge and understanding required to competently wear Breathing Apparatus and to contribute effectively to an incident involving Breathing Apparatus.

Assessment is carried out through continual observation, questioning and written assessment.

Course Aim

To ensure the students are competent in all technical and practical aspects of Breathing Apparatus.

Course Content and Objectives

On the completion of the course students will have covered:

  • Physiology of respiration
  • Physiological stress
  • Breathing Apparatus equipment
  • Breathing Apparatus control procedures
  • Search procedures
  • Fire Behaviour (CFBT)
  • Moving in smoke and darkness
  • Emergency procedures
  • confined space
  • Thermal image camera
  • Personal protection procedures

Course Outcome

On completion of the course Students will receive a certificate of achievement.

Course Duration

Two weeks (Monday - Friday) Accommodation can be arranged if required at extra cost.

Course Requirements

Due to the physical nature of this course, students are required to demonstrate prior to attendance that they have been medically assessed and deemed fit and able to undertake course activities.

Student Numbers

The Breathing Apparatus Wearers Course can accommodate between six and twelve students at any one time.
