Firefighter Revalidation

Course Outline

This programme is designed for personnel in the role of Firefighter. It concentrates on the core competencies required for the effective deployment of equipment and personnel in order to deal with an aircraft accident/incident.

Course Aim

  • To provide technical and practical training in order to comply with the requirements of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAP 168 Certificates of Competency); CAP 699 Standards for the Competence of Rescue and Firefighting Service (RFFS) Personnel Employed at United Kingdom Licensed Aerodromes and the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Document Annex 14 and document 9137-AN/898 Airport Services Manual Part 1, Rescue and Fire fighting.
  • The programme is designed for personnel who have already successfully completed the Initial Firefighter Course or equivalent and have consolidated that knowledge with further application in the workplace.
  • Assessment is carried out through continual observation, written assessment and professional discussion.

Course Content and Objectives

On the completion of the course students will have covered:

  • Employ the principles of dynamic risk assessment and safe person concept
  • State the primary and secondary media used for firefighting(Review)
  • Discuss tactics and techniques using an aircraft accident/incident case study
  • Demonstrate competence in application in the use of Fire Service equipment in 'live' fire scenarios.
  • Demonstrate the appropriate tactics and techniques used when dealing with various simulated aircraft accident/incidents.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the Incident Command System (ICS).

Course Outcome

On successful completion of the programme, the individual will be issued with an appropriate certificate of competence in core units and will possess the level of knowledge, understanding and skills.

  • The period of validity of the certificate of competence will be 4 years.

Course Duration

One week (Sun-Thur) - Accommodation can be arranged if required at extra cost.

Course Requirements

Due to the physical nature of this course, students are required to demonstrate prior to attendance that they have been medically assessed and deemed fit and able to undertake course activities in accordance to CAP 168.

  • The programme may be offered to any persons having a current Certificate of Competence as an aerodrome Firefighter, or one which has expired.

Student Numbers

The Firefighter Revalidation Course can accommodate between six and twelve students at any one time.
